Local police are again warning of a fake business email scam that has recently been spotted in the region.
Have you got an email invoice from a business you’ve been dealing with?
Does the email come from the real business email address, or has the business email address been slightly changed?
Scammers may have accessed the email and then altered the invoice so that the bank details are the scammers and contact details changed in case you call them.
If you then pay the money you won’t know it’s a scam until the legit business contacts you again for payment, and often this is too late for the bank to get your money back.
Protect yourself!
Police are saying if you recognise a scam, contact Scam watch and let them know. https://www.scamwatch.gov.au/
