Telstra’s announcement that it’s delayed the closure of its 3G network to August 31st is being welcomed by Federal Member for Mallee Anne Webster.
Concerns had been raised that those with older phones wouldn’t be able to make emergency calls once the network is gone.
But the local member says it shows there are still issues with the shutdown, especially in regional areas, and the Federal Government needs to ensure no-one is left behind.
A Senate Inquiry into the shutdown of the 3G mobile network and telecommunications services accessibility is currently underway with submissions closing on 31 May 2024.
