EPA warns against illegal burning

Farmers across Mildura and Swan Hill Council areas are being reminded to be careful of what they burn, with the weather drying out. 

The EPA has reported a rise in illegal burning in Western and North-Western Victoria, with some of the waste leaving contaminated residue and hazardous smoke. 

Items including treated pine posts, grape vine covers and waste tyres have been found, which the agency says is hazardous to the environment and can be dangerous for people’s health

The environment authority says anyone in the agricultural or industrial sectors should know which materials need to be disposed of at licensed facilities. 

Anyone who notices an burn involving waste material are being urged to report it.
