The environmental watchdog will be writing to all Victorian councils including Mildura and Swan Hill, asking them to assess quality controls for landscaping works and garden mulch.
It comes after a council in Melbourne had to inspect all its parks and gardens following the discovery of asbestos in several parks in the city.
The EPA is also reminding demolition companies of their environmental obligations when it comes to managing the dangerous material during demolition works.
