Drink driver arrested over hit-run and assault at Monash

A drink driver was arrested at Monash on Friday after an alleged hit run and assault.

Police responded to a report of a two-car collision on the Sturt Highway, Monash about 5.45pm on Friday 6 February.  

One of the vehicles involved, a Holden Captiva, had left the scene of the crash.

The Holden was located a short time later, abandoned with the engine running and a dog inside, further along the Sturt Highway.

Police searched the area and spoke with residents.  

It will be alleged the same man assaulted a local resident and threw a rock, smashing the windscreen of his vehicle.

Officers tracked down and arrested the suspect nearby.

The 40-year-old Barmera man was charged with driving without due care, drink driving, property damage, assault and fail to stop at a crash scene.

He was bailed to appear in the Berri Magistrates Court on 11 March.

He also recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.232 and was issued with a 12-month instant loss of licence and his vehicle was impounded.
