Swan Hill Police have hit social media to remind residents and visitors the dogs die in hot cars.
In a hot car, a dog’s body temperature can rise rapidly resulting in damage to the central nervous system and organ failure.
As with babies and small children, the effects of heatstroke on animals may not be apparent until it’s too late.
Even if they survive the heat, they may sustain permanent brain and organ damage.
If you find a pet left in a hot car, call Police immediately on 000.
Animals can die in as little as six minutes if left in a hot car.
