Danger period for drowning in the coming weeks

Locals and visitors planning to cool off in the Murray leading up to and over Christmas are being warned the waters may have changed.

We’re heading into the most dangerous week of the year for drownings with new figures revealing the days after Christmas are the deadliest time of the year.

Will Koon from Royal Lifesaving says there’s also the dangers of currents in the local stretch of the river.

A quarter of all drowning deaths happen during the Christmas through January 2^nd period, with alcohol a factor in a quarter of drownings in Australia.
