Sunraysia Residential Services Inc. (SRS) has welcomed a commitment from Mildura Rural City Council this week to undertake an investigation into the requirements to potentially install a pedestrian crossing on Fifteenth Street between Deakin and Walnut avenues to address safety concerns.
The commitment comes following the submission of an SRS-led petition to Council in June 2026 calling for the crossing’s installation, after SRS participants living in this area raised the issue at the March 2026 Disability Advocacy meeting.
At Council’s July Ordinary Council Meeting, Council agreed to:
- Review previous traffic and pedestrian data in the area
- Investigate criteria to establish a pedestrian crossing in this area
- Consult with impacted residents regarding a potential location
- Prepare a costing and timing of works report for Councillors to consider
Council has indicated it will complete these investigations over the coming months, with a final recommendation expected to be presented to Councillors at the October Ordinary Council Meeting for a final decision.
SRS Services Manager Bethany Simpson thanked Council for their commitment to investigate the matter further, and for listening to community concern.
“More than 250 people signed our petition calling for action, and we can’t thank the Council enough for listening, and committing to further action,” she said.
