Starting from 1 May 2024, unsolicited telemarketing calls related to the Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU) program were made prohibited, followed by a ban on doorknocking from 1 August 2024.
These measures are designed to ensure that consumers are not disturbed by unwanted marketing efforts unless they have provided prior consent.
Member for Mildura, Jade Benham, says “With the cost-of-living crisis hitting all families there are many operators taking advantage of this, so please be vigilant.”
“If you receive an unsolicited phone call or visit, you are encouraged to report the incident to the Essential Services Commission.”
Telemarketing calls will still be allowed for other purposes, including notifying consumers of a product recall or fault, or booking an appointment for an upgrade.
For further information on the new bans or to report a violation, please contact the Essential Services Commission Phone: (03) 9032 1310 or Email: veu@esc.vic.gov.au
