A Red Alert has been issued for blue-green algae at the Menindee Lakes.
The advisory is for Lake Menindee Site 19, and will remain in place until tests show the risk has reduced.
Water NSW has issued the alert saying it applies to untreated water in the area, and urging locals to avoid the affected water until the red alert is lifted.
Pets and livestock should not drink the affected water.
Locals worried they may be affected by the algal bloom are being encouraged to seek medical help.
