WaterNSW has issued a red alert advisory for high levels of potentially toxic blue-green algae for the Great Darling Anabranch at the Silver City Highway crossing.
An amber alert for blue-green algae is current for the Murray River at Buronga, Curlwaa, Fort Courage and Lock 8.
This follows recent alerts for the Darling River at Pomona Boat Ramp, Upstream Pomona, Tapio, Ellerslie, Burtundy, Pooncarie, Tolarno, Menindee Weir 32, Menindee Pumping Station and Lake Menindee, with several warning sites further upstream.
Blue-green algae is naturally occurring and can reproduce quickly in still or slow-flowing water when there is abundant sunlight and sufficient nutrients.
