7 cases of H5N1 bird flu have now been confirmed in Victoria.
All confirmed cases are in Portland (5) and Nelson (2), in the state’s far south-west.
Agriculture Victoria surveillance is continuing, but they are asking for the community to keep an eye out too.
If you see sick or dead wild birds or marine mammals (e.g. seals, dolphins):
AVOID contact with sick or dead birds, wildlife or their environment
RECORD what you see and where you saw it.
REPORT it to DEECA online or call the Emergency Animal Disease hotline on 1800 675 888.
Agriculture Victoria says they know people care deeply about wildlife and want to help when they see an animal in distress.
Injured wildlife may still need rescue and care, but if birds or wildlife appear sick, or dead, avoid contact and report it so trained responders can safely assess the situation.
