An Australian first program led by the NSW Aboriginal Land Council (NSWALC) is delivering formal qualifications to Aboriginal high school students across NSW including in Dareton.
The NSWALC Junior Rangers Program is making an impact in schools and communities across NSW, strengthening cultural pride, academic achievement and environmental understanding among Aboriginal youth.
Once complete, the program, which recently took place in Dareton, will see 75 Aboriginal youths across NSW accredited with a Statement of Attainment in Aboriginal Site Works and Environmental Observation.
Following three successful Junior Ranger Programs in Orange, Lightning Ridge and Dareton the next program will take place in Dubbo before the final group of students is accredited in Armidale early next year.
This marks the first time these nationally recognised qualifications have been offered to school-aged participants through a community-led environmental education program run by NSWALC and will see students connect with culture, community and their classmates.
