At its scheduled meeting this week, Swan Hill Rural City Council approved a planning permit for the partial demolition of the former Robinvale Hotel, which was significantly damaged by fire in 2015, subject to several conditions.
Council says the decision follows the careful consideration of a range of alternative options, as well as two community petitions submitted in response to the planning permit proposal.
Swan Hill Rural City Council’s Mayor, Cr Stuart King said this decision was not made lightly.
“Council acknowledges the deep emotional and historical significance the Robinvale Hotel holds for many residents.”
“This has been a difficult and complex issue, and we thank everyone who took the time to provide feedback, sign petitions, and participate in the process,” Cr King said.
Cr King said the approved permit included several conditions to ensure heritage and planning considerations are respected during demolition works and are included in future development proposals for the site.
As objections have been received, there is now an opportunity for any party to lodge an application for a review of Council’s decision with the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) prior to the permit being formally issued.
