This latest update for Broken Hill, Menindee, Tibooburra, White Cliffs, Wilcannia and surrounding communities was issued last night, Tuesday 29 October 2024, 8:00 pm:
The power has been restored to all communities outside of Broken Hill after the generator unexpectedly tripped around 7 pm Tuesday 29 October.
An SMS alert was sent to impacted residents. You can provide your mobile number to your electricity retailer to get SMS alerts with the latest updates. Your retailer is the company that sends you your energy bill.
Seven replacement transmission towers have now been erected by Transgrid. These transmission towers are tall structures that support overhead power lines carrying electricity. The powerlines are now being restrung.
Please continue to minimise your energy use during the evening peak period and continue to use energy as normal during the day.
A Recovery Assistance Point will be available from Tuesday 29 October in Broken Hill and surrounding remote communities including Tibooburra, Wilcannia, Menindee and White Cliffs.
Some areas may continue to experience short periods without power, if we require load sharing to ensure the grid remains stable.
The full rebuild and reenergisation of the transmission line is expected to be complete by 6 November (weather dependent).
