Varroa Mite has been detected near Balranald.

NSW Department of Primary Industries has now issued a Biosecurity Emergency Order for the area, which includes a 25-kilometre surveillance emergency zone.

It’s the second zone extending into Victoria after the mite was detected in a hive at Euston last week.

Victorian beekeepers within the surveillance zones WON’T be allowed to move their hives into, within or out of the zones at the moment.

Local MP Jade Benham is calling on the Agriculture Department to have a plan in place to stop a Varroa Mite outbreak in Victoria.

The local politician says the possibility of spread is very high in Sunraysia, with the mite jeopardising the pollination process used throughout many farms in the region.
