The importance of cancer research for our regional and rural communities is being highlighted as the Australian Cancer Research Foundation marks its 40th anniversary.
Since 1984, the foundation has awarded more than $184 million to a range of projects across Australia that have helped prevent, detect and treat all types of cancer.
During that time, cancer survival rates have improved from under 50% to more than 70%.
However, Carly Du Toit from ACRF says their work is not yet done with a need to continue supporting projects in all parts of the country.
