A call for parents to make stronger connections to their children this Child Protection Week

Despite the fast-paced digital world we live in, a national survey of kids aged 10-16 has revealed Aussie kids actually prefer to spend time with their families in person rather than being online, with two in five (41%) favouring face-to-face connection with family compared to just 15% who prefer digital interaction.

In fact, three-quarters (76%) of kids feel most connected to their family when talking about their day in person, despite almost half (46%) spending over an hour a day talking online.

Additionally, three-quarters (74.3%) of children feel positive with their close adult being in the same room whilst they’re online with nearly one in five (17%) feeling safer, yet only 10% reported always having an adult present when they’re online.

To encourage adults to create stronger everyday connections with the kids in their lives, child protection organisation Act for Kids is launching their Let’s Connect IRL (In Real Life) campaign, co-designed by children.

Whether chatting in the car, being present, or joining in on their digital spaces, kids want real, in person time with their families.
