The Wentworth community have come together to celebrate the return of a beloved local.
“Herbie” The Big Yabby takes pride of place at Strother Park, Wentworth, near the Old Wentworth Gaol and Wentworth Pioneer Museum, after many years away from the township.
Wentworth Shire Council Mayor Cr. Danile Linklater said on social media that late former councillor Steve Heywood would be thrilled that Herbie is back on display for all to enjoy, and it was lovely that his wife Andria & family could be with them for the ceremony yesterday.
The local mayor also paid tribute to many members of the community who helped to drive the project including Ted O’Shannessy and his volunteers for painstakingly reassembling Herbie, Jason and Kylie from XCAV8, Leisa Cartwright and her helpers for the exquisite paint job, and Tim Snow and his garden team for creating such a fantastic landscape.
He also mentioned Becky Bysouth, and board and staff at Community Bank Wentworth & District, thanking them for such a thoughtful gift to the community to celebrate the Community Bank’s 25th Birthday.
