A season-long partnership between Lifeline Loddon Mallee and the Sunraysia Football Netball League will culminate with the 2026 How’s Ya Mate Round on Saturday 8 August, bringing a community-wide focus to mental health, wellbeing and connection.

Supported by the Coopers Foundation, the How’s Ya Mate program has been delivered throughout the season across SFNL clubs, equipping players, coaches, volunteers and supporters with the confidence to start conversations about mental health and look out for one another.

Lifeline Loddon Mallee representatives will be attending all SFNL matches, providing information, resources and opportunities for community members to engage in conversations about mental health and suicide prevention.

Lifeline Loddon Mallee CEO Lisa Renato said the partnership demonstrates the significant contribution local sporting clubs can make to community wellbeing.

“Football and netball clubs are often the social heart of our communities. They’re places where people connect, build friendships and support each other through life’s challenges.”

Sunraysia Football Netball League General Manager, Jason Torney said the league was proud to continue its partnership with Lifeline Loddon Mallee and the Coopers Foundation.

“Our clubs bring together people of all ages and backgrounds every week. That gives us a unique opportunity to start conversations that extend well beyond the playing field.”

Local Director, Stephen Hegedus said the program was helping address an issue that affects every community.

“Initiatives such as How’s Ya Mate Round encourage people to reach out, start conversations and remind those doing it tough that they are not alone.”

The How’s Ya Mate conversation is simple: taking a moment to ask someone how they are going and being prepared to listen.

Community members attending SFNL matches on 8 August are encouraged to visit the Lifeline Loddon Mallee information stalls, connect with local support services and join the movement to make mental wellbeing everyone’s business.
