People across Far West New South Wales will continue to have access to free community legal services, following Mallee Family Care’s successful tender to deliver the Broken Hill Community Legal Centre for the next four years.

Mallee Family Care first established the Community Legal Centre in Broken Hill in July 2024, expanding access to justice for people living in one of Australia’s most remote regions.

The new funding agreement will ensure these vital services continue, providing free legal advice, information, duty lawyer services and casework to individuals and families across the Far West.

Since opening in 2024, more than 750 people have accessed free, confidential services through the Broken Hill Community Legal Centre.

Chief Executive Officer Teresa Jayet said the successful tender recognised the important role the service plays in supporting communities to navigate legal issues and access justice close to home.

“Access to legal assistance should not depend on where you live,” Ms Jayet said.

“People living in regional and remote communities often face significant barriers to accessing legal services. We’re pleased to continue delivering these essential services so people across Far West NSW can receive timely, free legal support when they need it.”

Mallee Family Care has delivered community legal services across north-west Victoria for more than three decades and has continued to expand its reach into New South Wales to meet growing community need.
