Plasma donations begin in Mildura

March 23, 2026 6:28 am in by

Mildura residents can now donate plasma and help save thousands of extra lives every year, following the expansion of Lifeblood’s Mildura Donor Centre.

Plasma, the powerful yellow liquid part of blood, can be made into 18 life-giving products and is used to treat people with immune conditions, kidney disease, cancer and other serious illnesses.

Last year Mildura locals made more than 3,000 blood donations, helping to save the lives of more than 9,000 patients in need.

Lifeblood Director of National Operations and Network Delivery Emma McMullan said the addition of two plasma donor chairs at the newly refurbished centre was expected to boost the nation’s blood supply by 1,500 donations every year.

“Plasma can be donated every two weeks, making it one of the most impactful ways to help others. “Plasma is now the most needed donation type in Australia, with demand for plasma outstripping whole blood demand due to medical advances and an aging population.”

Donating plasma is similar to donating blood but takes a little longer, with donors encouraged to set aside 90 minutes for their appointment.

The Mildura Donor Centre is located at 168A Eighth St, Mildura VIC 3500 and is open from Tuesday-Friday.

To book an appointment, call 13 14 95, visit https://www.lifeblood.com.au/, or download the Lifeblood app.
