Mildura Rural City Council is reminding resident to never put fireplace ash in any bin.

Council says even if it looks cold, ash can still contain live embers that can start a fire in:

Your bin and nearby property

Landfills and waste facilities

How to stay safe:

Let ash cool for at least seven days in a metal container

Store it away from flammables, pets, and children

Add to your garden (in small amounts) – ash provides nutrients like calcium

Use in compost – ash helps balance your compost pile

Use for cleaning – ash can help remove soot from fireplace glass or rust
