Yet another collision at notorious local intersection

Planned traffic lights and other upgrades at the Deakin Avenue and Sixteenth Street intersection cannot come fast enough for the Mildura South community.

Yesterday saw yet another traffic collision at the notorious local intersection, with a truck and utility colliding just before 9:00am.

Safety issues with the intersection were flagged by Mildura Rural City Council in the planning stages of the Mildura Sporting Precinct, and a request for a fix submitted to the Victorian Government.

According to the Transport Victoria website:

“We’re improving safety at the intersection of the Sturt Highway (Deakin Avenue) and Sixteenth Street in Mildura with a joint investment from the Australian Government and the Victorian Government under the Road Safety program.”

“Transport Victoria is undertaking planning work to develop designs for the intersection with a focus on improved safety for all road users including motorists, pedestrians and bike riders…”

“This project is currently in development.”

“The final design and a timeline for construction will be confirmed as work progresses.”
