A convicted hit and run killer has avoided further jail time, almost 20 years after veering his car into a group of local teenagers locally, six losing their lives.

Thomas Towle was handed a 12 month community corrections order at the Bendigo Magistrates Court for recent drug-driving charges, with the prosecution telling court this was his twelfth driving conviction.

Towle was sentenced in 2008 to 10 years in jail after hitting the teens in Cardross.
