Swan Hill Rural City Council has announced a lineup of events to celebrate Australia Day 2024 over two consecutive days.
Day one – Thursday, 25 January 2024
Communal Celebrations and Awards Ceremony
On the first day of the celebration, the community is invited to join in the festivities, recognising the accomplishments of the community and embracing new Australian citizens through the official citizenship ceremony.
The event will also feature the Local Government Awards and Student Achievement Awards.
Robinvale Event: Robinvale Community Arts Centre, commencing at 11am
Swan Hill Event: Swan Hill Town Hall, starting at 6:30 pm – includes Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year.
Day two – Friday, 26 January 2024
Shared Connections Day
Day two will provide an opportunity to revive cultural practices and strengthen community bonds.
As part of the day, a possum skin cloak and a didgeridoo will be designed and carved, becoming integral parts of the Council’s history. Community members are encouraged to contribute by adding their name, a quote, or a symbol, which will be burned into these items.
Attendees can actively participate in creating items that will serve as a lasting testament to our shared heritage.
Robinvale: Caix Square in Robinvale, starting at 9am
Swan Hill: Swan Hill Riverside Park, a sunset event starting at 6pm
Small town in the municipality will also have events on Friday, 26 January.
