A new report from the Productivity Commission has found proposed legislation to extend the timeframe of the Murray Darling Basin Plan doesn’t go far enough.
It says the plan hasn’t made enough progress on water recovery, including staged voluntary buybacks, and is calling for more State and Federal accountability.
The commission says basin governments need to be more transparent and accountable in delivering the plan in its first review of the plan in five years.
