Rail trial could see regular services to Melbourne

A recent trial which saw Pacific National pull an 86 wagon, 15 hundred metre, container train with three locomotives could see regular services between Merbein and Melbourne according to the Victorian Government.

It says the longer and heavier train can haul around four-thousand tonnes of freight without needing extra train crews or locos.

The government says it’ll pave the way for regular services between Merbein and Melbourne, able to move higher volumes of produce including citrus and table grapes for farmers, producers and operators from Sunraysia while taking more trucks off roads.
