A group of councils including Mildura and Swan Hill are worried about proposed water buybacks as part of planned changes to the Murray Darling Basin Plan.
Federal Labor has introduced legislation to amend the plan, however the Murray River Group of Councils has written an Open Letter, imploring the government to not allow the changes to go ahead.
The councils say the region is one of the country’s largest food bowls, and buybacks will decimate struggling regional communities still recovering from floods and the pandemic.
