Victoria Police Farm Crime Coordination Unit are reminding all firearms owners of their responsibility to ensure correct and compliant storage arrangements are consistent with the Firearms Act.
Unsecured and or incorrectly stored firearms are a risk to community.
Firearms must be stored in a purpose-built storage receptacle
Storage receptacles must be made from steel at least 1.5mm thick
If the receptacle weighs less than 150kg (empty), it must be bolted to the structure of the premises
The receptacle must be locked with a lock of sturdy construction when a firearm is being stored.
Police continue to conduct routine inspections of firearms storage arrangements across Victoria.
