School Holidays are just around the corner for students on the New South Wales side of the river.
NSW students will finish up Term 3 today and the Barrier Police District officers are using the holiday period as an opportunity to remind locals to stay safe and secure.
NSW Police say with school holiday’s approaching it’s all about reducing the risk and removing the opportunity of break-ins.
Some of their tips include:
Ensure premises are always locked and secure when absent, even for a short time.
1 – Install CCTV, modern CCTV cameras and recording equipment are a cost effective preventative measure and powerful investigative tool.
2 – Keep a detailed and up to date property inventory. Be sure to record any serial numbers and/or identifying markers or unique characteristics of the property.
3 – External doors have deadlocks, windows have keylocks, internal door between garage and house has a deadlock and keys aren’t left in locks. Ensure all locks comply with Australian standards.
4 – Ensure vehicles are always locked, no items of value are left in vehicles (or are not visible if they must be), and garage remotes are secured or removed from the vehicle.
5 – Keep a look out for suspicious behaviour in your area and if in doubt contact your local police.
Anyone with information about criminal activity in the community is urged to contact your local police station or Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000.
