Weir works to start today

Works are due to start today to temporarily remove the Mildura Weir.

It’s expected to take around eight days to complete and is because of increased water flowing through the Murray River including from the Goulburn and Murrumbidgee rivers.

Authorities say it’s normal to remove the weir when flows reach around forty-thousand mega litres a day.

The water level upstream will drop by around a metre once the weir’s removed but will rise again as the higher flows arrive.

Once the weir is removed boats will be able to use the river without using the lock.
