Recreational use returns for the Murray

Limited recreational river use is now allowed as the flood waters continue to recede along the Murray River.

Mildura Cruises has announced it’ll be getting back onto the water from Sunday, starting with a lunch cruise from midday before finishing the day with a sunset cruise from 7:00pm.

Other businesses are waiting for the Mildura Wharf to reopen to pick up passengers from the area.

Houseboats are still waiting for the riverbanks to dry further to allow overnight mooring.

The level at Mildura Weir may fall below the minor flood level later today.

Darryl Morgan from Mildura Rural City Council says the city is doing work around removing some levees to prepare them for when they’re able to reopen roads.

Locals dealing with used sandbags from the floods will be able to dispose of them at the Mildura Landfill facility.

Advice and watch and act messages remain in place, with some locals warned it’s still not safe to return to their properties.

And residents who have sandbags that have been used during the floods crisis can get rid of them at the Mildura Landfill for no charge.
