Rates increase anger

Mildura Rural City Council’s proposal to increase farming rates has been met with anger from agricultural groups.

The city wants to raise the farming differential rate to 90 per cent from 76 per cent, while residential ratepayers will be saving money.

Groups including Murray Valley Winegrowers say it’ll hit growers at the wrong time, with some having crops wiped out due to a downy mildew outbreak.

Australian Table Grape Association CEO Jeff Scott has told the Sunraysia Daily that growers are very frustrated and can’t understand why they’re not being included with the rest of the local population.
