Mildura and Swan Hill police are taking part in a state-wide operation that’s now running until midnight Sunday.
Officers will be focussing on the usual offences including speeding, drink and drug driving as part of Operation Amity.
But they’ll also be targeting unlicensed or suspended drivers who shouldn’t be behind the wheel.
Police across the state utilising automatic number plate recognition technology (ANPR) to detect and remove drivers and motorcyclists who are unlicensed, suspended and disqualified.
NSW Police around Dareton, Euston and Broken Hill will also be out on the roads over the unofficial weekend, with double demerits for motorists caught doing the wrong thing.
Operation Australia Day will be targeting speeding, mobile phone, seatbelt, and motorcycle helmet offences.
Both operations commenced at midnight and run through until midnight Sunday night.
