Mildura Police will be taking part in a Victoria-wide operation focussing on road safety over Christmas.
Operation Roadwise starts on Friday and will run for twelve days.
Acting Assistant Commissioner Justin Goldsmith says risky driving is more common during end-of-year work and social functions.
Operation Roadwise runs from 12:01am on Friday 16 December to 11:59pm on Tuesday 27 December.
Visitors heading to regional areas should remember that more than half of the lives lost on Victorian roads occur in regional areas and on country roads.
Please – slow down, be aware of your surroundings and don’t use your phone while driving.
Be patient, as many of the major roads and highways will be busy as people head to holiday destinations (there are still roadworks underway from the flooding we have experienced up here too)
Be cautious when travelling near heavy vehicles and vehicles towing caravans and campers – maintain a safe braking distance and never overtake on double white lines or when visibility is poor.
Please stay safe on our roads and enjoy your trip to our lovely part of the world!
