Fire permits will be suspended in the Wentworth Shire Council and Balranald Shire Council areas over Christmas.
The New South Wales Rural Fire Service says the decision to suspend the permits is nothing new and will help keep locals safe from bush and grass fires over the festive period.
The suspension comes into effect from midnight Monday and runs through until January 16.

Serious penalties, including fines and/or imprisonment, can and will apply for starting a fire without a permit during the Bush Fire Danger Period.
Exemptions may be authorised in exceptional circumstances, such as public safety or essential business works.
