Man arrested on stolen vehicle at Berri

A man has been arrested after being stopped on a stolen vehicle at Berri on Friday.

At 5.30pm on Friday (July 21st), witnesses saw a man driving a green John Deere Gator four-wheel agricultural vehicle in an erratic manner on Jones Street.

Police stopped the operator and submitted him to a breath analysis test.

He allegedly produced a blood alcohol reading of 0.100.

Checks were conducted on the Gator which revealed it was stolen.

The man’s licence was also showing as disqualified.

Police searched the man and located a credit card knife, which is a prohibited weapon, along with other stolen items namely Texta’s, gloves, a water gauge, a chainsaw and hammer.

The keys to the stolen vehicle were also found in the man’s possession.

A 37-year-old man from Berri was arrested and charged with drink driving, illegal use of a motor vehicle, theft, possessing a prohibited weapon and driving while disqualified.

He was refused police bail and appeared in the Berri magistrates Court where he was remanded in custody.
