Treasury Wines has announced it will be closing its commercial winery at Karadoc after over 50 years of operation.

The winery has been operating since 1973 and is set to shut mid-2024, with Treasury saying the closure is due to changing consumer preferences and to enable the company to focus on continued growth in other areas.

The closure will affect 60 jobs.

The Karadoc site currently makes wine for brands including Wolf Blass, Lindeman’s and Yellowglen.

The company also plans to divest its commercial vineyard at Cullulleraine.

Dr Anne Webster MP, Federal Member for Mallee said, “At a time of poor returns for winegrapes and difficult cropping conditions, this is another blow to the Sunraysia’s winegrape industry.”
