A plant species thought to be extinct for more than sixty-years has been re-discovered near the Murray River.
Botanists looking at public land following last year’s floods in the North-West came across the Bearded Flat Sedge.
The small tufted plant can grow to sixteen centimetres tall and is suited to wet and muddy environments.

Authorities say it’s a heartening discovery and shows the resilience of the species.
