Westpac is keeping its Robinvale branch open for now.
The bank has announced it’s pressed the pause button on regional closures while a Senate inquiry is underway.
Federal member for Mallee Anne Webster has welcomed the news.
Mildura MP Jade Benham has also welcomed news, saying the bank is a vital service for locals in the town.
But there’s no word on whether the ANZ will also pause its planned closure of the Robinvale branch.
The first hearing of the Senate Inquiry into Regional and Rural bank closures will be held in Sale on March 2.
The Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport References Committee will be requesting that both
Westpac and the National Australia Bank appear at the public hearing.
The findings of the Inquiry are to be delivered by December 1.
Submissions to the inquiry are open until March 31 2023.
