A Watch and Act message is in place for residents on or close to the Murray between Colignan and Nangiloc and north to Lambert Island.
Authorities say residents and businesses should be ready if an evacuation warning is issued with floodwaters continuing to rise in the area.
They say some houses will be surrounded by water or water will start to flood into some homes and sheds.
Meantime, a moderate flood warning has been issued for the river between Yelta and the South Australian border, with the Murray at Mildura Weir expected to pass the moderate flood level over the weekend.
Mildura Council is putting in or reinforcing levees across the riverfront.
The three kilometre stretch is near Flora Avenue and Ranfurly Way, with changes in traffic conditions while the work is being completed.
The city says a new one-point-eight kilometre levee is being established near the Lower Murray Water treatment plant to protect the facility.
Crews will also be monitoring other areas to see if more work’s needed.
Work is also being carried out on the NSW side of the river to sure up flood protection.
Also, more community meetings are being planned for this week as the river levels rise.
The first is being held at the Nangiloc Hall this afternoon from 4:00, with locals able to chat with representatives from the SES, Mallee Catchment Management Authority, Mildura Police and Mildura Rural City Council.
A community flood information session is also being held at the Red Cliffs library tomorrow afternoon from 3:00.
