Emergency Warning Evacuate Immediately

This Emergency Warning is being issued for parts of Mildura and surrounding areas including Etiwanda Avenue Extension, Benetook Avenue Extension, Cowra Avenue Extension and Cureton Avenue East. Nichols Point, Bruces Bend and surrounding areas including River Boulevard, Park Road, Park Lane, Loop Road, Billabong Road, Pate Street, Irymple Avenue Extension, First Street and Keating Avenue. If you live, work or are holidaying in this area, you should Evacuate Immediately

  • Floodwater is continuing to rise in these areas. 
  • Some houses will become surrounded by floodwater or start to flood into some homes and sheds. 
  • Roads in and out of these areas are likely to be impacted by deep floodwater any time from now. 
  • It is important that you know that this flooding might last for many weeks in this area, and you could become isolated.
  • If you decide to stay, you may lose services including power, water, sewerage and telephone due to flooding.
If you are located in Nichols Point, Bruces Bend and surrounding areas, it is recommended you Evacuate Immediately.

What you should do: 
Travel to a safe location. Options include: 
  • The relief centre that has been opened at: Alfred Deakin Centre – Benetook Room, 190 Deakin Avenue Mildura. Phone: 03 5018 8100. 
  • Family or friends’ homes located in a safe location, away from flooding.
  • If you need assistance to evacuate call the Mildura Rural City Council –  Relief Centre on 03 5018 8100

The safest evacuation route is by:

  • Cureton Avenue East via Benetook Avenue Extension, Cowra Avenue Extension, Karadoc Avenue Extension and Irymple Avenue Extension.
  • Do not drive through floodwater.

When you leave, remember to take your pets, mobile phone and medications. 
Floodwater is dangerous – never enter floodwater. 
If you are travelling by car: 
  • Do not drive through floodwater. 
  • Find alternative travel routes if roads or underpasses are flooded. 
  • Be aware of driving hazards, such as mud, debris, damaged roads and fallen trees. 
  • If driving conditions are dangerous, safely pull over away from trees, drains, low lying areas and floodwater.
If you stay: 
  • If you choose to stay, emergency services may not be able to help you. 
  • Stay inside and be aware of changing conditions. 
  • If floodwater comes inside, move to a higher point such as a kitchen bench or second story. 
  • Follow your emergency plan, if you have one. 
  • Contact family members and neighbours to ensure they are aware of the situation, if safe to do so. 

  • This warning is current to 24/11/2022 at 7:00pm. If you do not evacuate before this time, your property may be isolated or inundated with water and it may be too late to leave. 
You should stay informed by listening to emergency broadcasters and monitoring warnings. Call Triple Zero (000) in a life threatening emergency. 
For emergency assistance from the SES, call 132 500.
Impacts in your area: 
  • Flooding above floor level of a single-story home is likely to occur. 
  • Evacuation of homes is required. 
  • Evacuating too late or choosing to remain in your home when recommended to evacuate is dangerous and may put your life at risk.
  • Snakes, spiders and rats may try to find shelter in your home, even if raised.
