Drivers on notice ahead of public holiday

Drivers heading away for the unofficial long weekend are being urged to stick to the speed limits on roads across regional Victoria.

Paul Northey from the Department of Transport and Planning says some thoroughfares may still be impacted by floods.

Meanwhile Operation Amity 2023 commences on Victorian roads tomorrow.

The operation runs for five days, from 12:01am on Wednesday 25 January and concludes at 23:59pm on Sunday 29 January.

Police are warning they will be highly visible and actively enforcing, to reduce road trauma across the unofficial long weekend, with a focus on major arterials, coastal holiday hotspots, and travel on RURAL ROADS.

They will be targeting speeding, impaired drivers, distraction, fatigue and seatbelts.

The operation will involve all available personnel across Victoria Police including regional Highway Patrols, State Highway Patrol, Heavy Vehicle Unit, Road Policing Drug and Alcohol Section (RPDAS), and Public Order Response Team (PORT) resources.

Their message: Drive Safe!
