Mildura Rural City Council will write to Victoria’s Local Government Minister, asking them to reconsider the city’s electoral structure.
The city is set to be moved to a single councillor ward structure as it’s classified as a regional city.
However, councillors have agreed to write to the Minister, arguing it’s impractical for the municipality to be split into single councillor wards, and it should be aligned with rural shire councils.

They also want the city to be considered a rural shire council.
A preliminary report into the single councillor ward electoral structure is due to be released this week by the Victorian Electoral Commission.
