An eleven-hour operation has been held to pour 850 cubic metres of concrete for the foundations of a massive power substation at Buronga.

Transgrid and Secure Energy are building the 700 kilometre section of the Energy Connect Project from Wagga Wagga to the South Australian border, with a connection to Red Cliffs.

Transgrid says the 16 hectare substation will be one of the largest in the southern hemisphere and will act as the main hub for the connection between the three states.

Fifteen trucks were loaded at Mawsons’ local plants, with 50 workers involved in the pour.

An additional 850 cubic metres of concrete is scheduled to be poured next week to complete the foundations.
