Thousands of dollars is set to arrive at local non-profit groups in coming weeks as part of the Federal Government’s annual Volunteer Grants Program.
Marking National Volunteer Week, Farrer MP Sussan Ley said the funding helps local community organisations support the efforts of their volunteers, assists the vulnerable and boosts participation in volunteering.
“With grant amounts set between $1,000 and $5,000, this money will be going towards things like work tools, a defibrillator and first-aid course, a new mower, laptops or iPad, even some new bench seats.”
Listed in the recipients are Wentworth District Meals on Wheels Inc. $2,500 and Wentworth District Community Medical Centre $1,131.
Ms Ley said she looks forward to a further round of grants being made available again later this year.
