Locals are being urged not to sweep lawn cuttings, leaves or other materials into stormwater inlets in their streets.
Mildura Rural City Council says water won’t be able to escape from the stormwater drainage system as quickly as usual due to forecast wet weather and the rising river levels.
It says it’s important to the community to work together to minimise the impacts of the river flooding.
And anyone who sees flooding in their local streets are being encouraged NOT to drive through the water.
Council has put together a simple video to illustrate how the local stormwater system works which can be accessed at www.mildura.vic.gov.au/stormwaterflood
