Calls to get involved in local National Tree Day event

The community is being encouraged to help beautify flood-affected areas of Apex Park as part of Mildura Rural City Council’s National Tree Day event.

Taking place slightly earlier to take advantage of better growing conditions, Council’s National Tree Day event will see 250 local native species planted.

Trees have been selected to replace plants damaged or lost during the recent Murray River flood event, and to increase shade and natural biodiversity.

The event is scheduled for this Sunday 28 May at Apex Park (second carpark adjacent to the public toilets) from 10am to midday.

A barbecue lunch will be available from 11.30am courtesy of the Mildura Lions Club, with participants to also have the chance to help clean up the area and take part in a free tree giveaway.

Those interested in volunteering can register online at https://treeday.planetark.org/site/10028259 ahead of the day.

The event is open to all ages, with those attending encouraged to bring their own gloves, hat and water.
