Mildura’s Citizen of the Year has been announced as Peter Saunders.

The Ouyen local has been recognised for his work within the community, including helping elderly residents maintain their gardens and providing transport for those who need it.

He’s also spent more than 15-years volunteering at the Pattinson Elderly Care Hostel.

Conor Pall was recognised as Young Citizen of the Year, who was a member of the 2021 Mildura Youth Parliament.

There were joint winners for the Community Event or Project, being the 2022 Red Cliffs Centenary Celebrations and last year’s Hattah Desert Race.

 

In the Wentworth Shire Australia Day Awards, Gwen Wilkinson was announced as Citizen of the Year, Daniel Hawkins Young Citizen of the Year, Bec Marshall Sportsperson of the Year and Kalesita Burton was named Young Sportsperson of the Year.

Sharon Denham has been announced as Swan Hill’s Citizen of the Year.

The council held its Australia Day Awards yesterday, with Alannah Taylor the Young Citizen of the year.

Nyah District Christmas Carnival was named the Community Event for the municipality.
